Litigation & Trial Lawyers
Litigation and Trial Lawyers handle cases that go to court. These cases can be civil or criminal and can range from those with a few parties to many parties; and a a few matters in dispute to many issues. The terms “complex litigation” usually refers to cases with complex facts and issues or many parties. The litigation can take place in the federal or state courts.
Litigation lawyers are familiar with processing cases through the courts, and with trying a case before a Judge or Jury. Most cases end in settlements, If the case goes to trial, and reaches a verdict, that verdict can be appealed to a higher court. The time to start an appeal is usually short. So the losing party desiring to appeal must promptly ask their lawyer to file the papers needed to preserve their right to appeal.
Litigation and trial lawyers’ skills are not learned in the classroom, but are usually honed from the lawyers’ experience in court.
